A Main Line mascot gets the boot. At issue was cultural sensitivity.
It's an issue that's been playing out on athletic fields all over America: re-thinking team names and the mascots that go with them, when they are based on potentially insulting images of Native Americans.
Baseball's Cleveland Indians take a lot of heat on this issue. So do football's
Washington Redskins.

After recent controversy in Neshaminy High School over the message and sensitivity of the school’s mascot, the “Redskin,” The Spoke decided to look into the role of mascots in high schools, colleges and professional sports. Editors and staff reporters researched mascots from local and national teams and conducted on-the-scene reporting at Neshaminy.
The following report describes the developments at Neshaminy, examines the mascot change at Radnor and looks into the role of the Pioneer at Conestoga. It also explores reactions and changes to American Indian mascots at the local and national levels.
