Donna High School is in Donna, Texas - a community that is primarily Hispanic (87.26% according to their on-line census report). Just a little over half of a percent of the population consider themselves Native American, and yet they have a long history with American Indian appropriation and mocking.
Since 1934 they have crowned an "Indian Sweetheart," (see the other HS Donna Indians tab for more photos) and in 1945 the girls started wearing the elaborate (and incredibly offensive) headdresses.
I've seen the images of their Indian Sweetheart celebrations online, and many people have labeled them as Native American students from an Indian school. This is incorrect.
