Lancaster, N.Y. (WBEN) - A week after the Lancaster School Board made a decision to abandon 'Redskins" as the school mascot and team name, the board tried to move on and hold a budget session. But protesters had another agenda item and filled the meeting room beyond capacity before being asked to leave by police.
"Let's go Redskins" was the chant coming from some of the demonstrators before the meeting was called to order. Some were allowed to stay inside the meeting room but were not allowed to make any public comment.
As board members attempted to meet, numerous demonstrators could be heard chanting outside the meeting room while a few Lancaster Police officers remained inside to ensure order.
